The list of affiliates is now an impressive one and includes some leading hospitality destinations around Zimbabwe, complementing the Inns of Zimbabwe’s own units in the Eastern Districts.

The Bulawayo Club has launched a series of tours designed to introduce guests to the unique historic heritage of Bulawayo, City of Kings, a tradition that stretches back for several centuries.Located in the heart of the city, Bulawayo Club itself occupies a gracious land-mark 75-year-old building, and was established in 1895. Recently refurbished and now under the management of The Amalinda Collection, the Club has a young and enthusiastic team in place to look after guest needs.
The tours are being offered by Amalinda Collection in conjunction with Zambezia Encounters, and will be guided by Rob Burrett, author, lecturer and museum curator. For Rob, local history and archaeology have been a lifelong passion as well as his training and career.
Rob will take guided walking tours of Bulawayo’s city centre, which is unique in southern Africa in terms of the number of original, splendid buildings still in use, and the skyline remains unspoilt by modern high-rise architecture. Also within easy reach of the Club are the Natural History Museum, National Gallery, and Railways Museum.
Should guests want to explore further tours can be arranged to the Matobo Hills, “a wilderness of granite,” with its rich legacy of rock art, shrines, battle sites and colonial memorials as well as spectacular scenery and wildife. Other key heritage areas include Khami ruins, the royal capital of the Torwa state from 1550 to 1696 AD.

Inn On The Vumba and the surrounding areas have been plagued by electricity problems again, with cable thefts being a major cause of power shortages, along with the usual faults and load shedding. The Inn has its own generator to keep going and guests’ inconvenience is minimised as a result, but the management team is doing what it can to get ZESA and the ZRP to bring to a halt the cable theft situation. There have been assurances that action will be taken and it is to be hoped this will happen, and allow the Inn to function as normally as possible.

When it comes to golf courses, Zimbabwe is fortunate to have some delightful courses situated across the country – some of them adjacent to the leading tourist attractions.
Golfers staying at Inns of Zimbabwe units can check with management to find out if arrangements are in place for discounted or preferential fees, and each of the Inns is close to one or more courses at which guests at the Inns are welcome to play.Near Inn On Rupurara and Pine Tree Inn at Nyanga are two nine-hole courses that are in good condition – Claremont near Juliasdale and Troutbeck up in the Nyanga Downs area. Close to Inn On The Vumba is the championship-rated Leopard Rock course high up in the Vumba mountains, as well as the popular Hillside course in the Mutare city centre. At Inn On Great Zimbabwe, guests can make arrangements to play at the very attractive Masvingo course in the Masvingo town centre.
Guests staying elsewhere in the country as part of their stay should also note that the country has a number of championship-rated courses – Elephant Hills at Victoria Falls, Bulawayo Golf Club in the City of Kings and three in Harare – Royal Harare, Chapman and Borrowdale Brooke. Additional to these are scores of other well-run clubs in smaller centres. Unfortunately the one centre without its own course at present is Kariba – where the heat seems to have won out over a round of golf for locals and visitors alike.
This “Old Lady”, as she is fondly referred to, was purchased new in Harare from Norton Motor Company in 1958.
She is an enthusiastic and experienced Tourer and will be a participant in the Classic Mercedes Benz tour of Zimbabwe in June 2010.
A group of “Stargazers” will be touring Zimbabwe in June. But stargazers of a different ilk – those that follow the “3-pointed Mercedes Benz star” with an inexplicable passion.
A group of about 15 cars including some highly collectable classics, but certainly all beauties, will visit Zimbabwe from 12 to 19 June.
It is hoped that media coverage surrounding the tour will attract the self-drive market from South Africa to Zimbabwe by communicating the renowned Zimbabwean friendly hospitality, the good roads, safe environment, the varied scenic splendour and great attractions.

The biggest news that Antelope Park has seen this year is the launch of Lion Country. This is a 6-part documentary series which was filmed here at Antelope Park with episodes also featuring our project in Livingstone) with its focus on our 4-stage lion rehabilitation and release program.
The documentary is being broadcast by ITV in the UK. It's first episode aired on the 6th of Jan this year and drew an audience of 4.8 million (a bigger viewing figure than Who Wants to be a Millionaire!)
The date of the next episode broadcast is yet to be announced from ITV, but is expected sometime in early March.
The episodes document the journeys of some of our lion cubs in Stage One - walking through the bush and encountering new sights, sounds, smells and all the while learning more and more about their natural habitat and their own instincts, including whilst out on night-time hunts.
They also feature some of our volunteer workers getting involved with care of the lions and important research and data collection.
Everyone involved with Antelope Park and the Lion Program (ALERT) is extremely proud of the Lion Country series and interest in the program has spiked since the series' broadcast.
We are very excited about the amount of interest Lion Country has attracted. Spreading awareness of the rapid decline of the African Lion Population is very important to us - it is a vital part of ensuring the future survival of the species.
